Tom Allen Announces His Debut Novel Common Decency
Tom Allen has written his first novel Common Decency, due to be published on March 12 by Coronet.
He shared the news with his mailing list this morning, saying:
‘I am absolutely delighted to inform you that for the past two years I have been writing a novel, and now it is time to officially announce it!
I have called it Common Decency and it is my love letter to suburbia – the place many of us live in or pass through on our commutes in and out of the cities. It is a place I have found that holds all human experience within its walls.
I have based Common Decency on my life living here and observing the often incidental happenings which actually reveal the most dramatic aspects of life. Think: threatened public parks, community theatre, barbecues and neighbourhood WhatsApp groups – not to mention death and drug dealers.
I am very proud of it and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.’
This is Tom’s third book, after the memoirs No Shame and Too Much, released in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Set in the sleepy streets of an unassuming part of England, Common Decency introduces the residents of Oak Drive, as they band together to protect a beloved tree from destruction by developers. It is available to pre order here.
