Marjolein Robertson Nominated for Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award 2025
Off The Kerb are delighted to announce that Marjolein Robertson has been shortlisted for the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award, as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival (GICF) 2025.
Introduced in 2023, and won by Off The Kerb’s Susie McCabe in 2024, the prestigious award in honour of Sir Billy Connolly looks to reward ‘an individual who most personifies the Spirit of Glasgow. Celebrating the city and its Glaswegian warmth, resilience and humour which is renowned around the world.’
Upon hearing of her nomination, Marjolein explained how much it means to her as a comedian and storyteller: ‘I’m overwhelmed to be nominated for this award. Billy Connolly to me is the father of storytelling comedy. He broke the mould bringing his folk background and telling stories, creating images on stage. He’s my greatest inspiration so to be included in this makes me feel like leaving Shetland to pursue comedy and bring my home’s folktales to the stage was the right choice.’
Be sure to see Marjolein on tour with her award-nominated show O – tickets can be found here. She will also be returning to the Edinburgh Fringe with a brand-new show in 2025 (tickets here), and if you didn’t catch it the first time round you can watch her twice award-nominated stand-up special Marj here now.
