Marjolein Robertson is an award-winning stand-up, improviser and storyteller from Shetland, now based in London. She was nominated for Channel 4’s Sean Lock Comedy Award and the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Comedy Award, and her sold-out Fringe shows Marj (2023) and O (2024) were among the best-reviewed of their years, earning multiple award nominations.

Marjolein’s style of comedy is unique, weaving traditional Shetland folktales into her stand-up sets, toeing the line between relatability and surrealism with skill. She is an accomplished storyteller with a vast knowledge of folklore, and was named Scots Speaker of the Year in 2022. Coming third in The List’s Hot 100 as one of Scotland’s top cultural contributors, Marjolein was also a BBC New Comedy Awards finalist and was invited to perform at the BBC Comedy Festival in Belfast in 2025.

A regular on BBC panel shows Breaking the News and The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected, she has also performed on Comedy Central Live, Scotland Stands Up, and UKTV’s Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza. Her latest project, Humanwatch for Radio 4, will be released later this year. She has acted in BBC’s Shetland, and her writing credits include the BAFTA-winning Dinosaur for the BBC.

In 2025, she toured her acclaimed show O across the UK, finishing with a sold-out homecoming performance at Shetland’s Mareel. She returns to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with her new show Lein.

VOICEOVERS

Voiceover Sample

'Impish... upbeat, able to mine an everyday observation to almost absurdist lengths'

The List

'The light and shade that she blended and captivated the audience with was spellbinding, there were times when the club roared with laughter, other occasions you could have heard a pin drop'

One4Review

'A neat, complete hour from a consummate storyteller with more than a hint of weird. For a tale about the erosion of self, it sees Robertson stand firm in her personality, talent and craft'

The Skinny

'Powerful, uncanny, and hilarious in equal measure. Marjolein Robertson's star isn't rising, it has risen'
